My 2014 Christmas Card Tally

4 November 2014

With Great Sadness

Hello my lovely blogging friends.

I haven't blogged regularly now for many months due to my Husband Mark's illness and it is with great sadness to tell you that my gorgeous Mark passed away peacefully by my side in the early hours of Saturday 1st November, aged 46 years.

I am totally devastated and it all feels very surreal and Mark will leave a huge hole in my life and I know now that he is no longer in pain and no longer suffering to the aggressive cancer he was trying to battle.

I want to thank everyone for their continued love and support during this very difficult time, as it means so much to me and my family.

Rest in peace my darling - I will love you always.

I'm Back & An Update

Hello my lovely crafty friends - I hope you are all well?

I thought it was about time I popped in with an update and to say I hope to be back blogging a little more regularly now.  So sorry I haven't been stopping at your blogs to see you and your lovely creations.

Just so you are updated on my absence and following on from my post on 15th June, Mark had his full body PET scan back in June and although we knew the melanoma had returned in certain areas, we did not realise to what extent. Not only does he have tumors in his clavicle, neck front and back, but it is in his lungs, liver and spine. He is currently on biological chemo tablets and has also had two weeks of radio therapy. It is not curable, just manageable, the tablets will only work for a certain period of time, we then have other options of treatment, but these do not work for everyone. We have also been given a life expectancy, which we are not focusing on, but it does put this horrible disease into perspective. Mark gave up work at the beginning of July and luckily as I only work part-time and term time, I am able to spend as much time as possible with him and caring for him.

Mark will have monthly checks and another scan at 6 months, unless he has any adverse side effects or infections. We are both very positive and have dealt with the bad news and moved on, you have to remain focused as each day is so precious.

We are going to Cornwall in a few weeks time and I am also looking forward to next Saturday as I am going to the Great British Craft Festival with my fabulous friend Debs at Stoneleigh Park which is just 20 minutes away from me.  Looking forward to having a great catch up and hopefully getting my craft mojo back as I haven't crafted since Mark's diagnosis in early June.

I just want to thank you all for your lovely comments, personal messages via text, email and Facebook and your support, it truly does mean a lot to us both.

Please remember, don't be a stramger.

Hugs and love

A Message For You

Good morning my lovely crafty friends.

I have decided to write this post as some of you already know and others do not.  My darling Husband Mark had Melanoma cancer in 2006 and it recurred this time last year to stage 3 - after what we thought was a dislocated collar bone, actually turned out to be the return of the melanoma and we are now at Stage 4 which is incurable.

He has a tumour in his clavicle bone and several spot points the other side and around his neck, there are also some findings of something going on with his liver.  Mark has a full body PET scan first thing on Wednesday morning where they will look at his organs, I already know part of another scan has showed up spots on his lungs - we found this out yesterday.

Luckily for Mark he is BRAF+ which means he has a mutant gene that only 5% of patients have which means he can have a form of chemotherapy by tablet - this has an 80% success rate and starts to work within a week, shrinking down the cells and moving around the blood stream blocking.  We know that with each individual this will work for only a limited time - could be 6 months, could be over a year - but there are other drugs he can take.  He will also be having radio therapy on the pinpointed areas.  If he had not had this gene the outlook was quite dismal.

There has been a lot to take in and life is like being on an emotional roller coaster, my emotions vary from being upset, angry, frustrated, helpless and most of all scared, but I am being very strong in front of Mark and the girls to get them through this horrible illness.

So this is why I haven't been around or visiting any of your lovely blogs - time and tiredness do not allow right now, I am hoping to be able to get into my crafty haven when he is back home from hospital to be able to relax and take my mind off things - work is being a distraction at the moment.

I want to thank those of you who have already sent best wishes and support - this means so much and helps us through as it is one day at a time.

I will of course keep you updated - people can react to you in very different ways, please don't be a stranger.
