My 2017 Christmas Card Tally

A Message For You

Good morning my lovely crafty friends.

I have decided to write this post as some of you already know and others do not.  My darling Husband Mark had Melanoma cancer in 2006 and it recurred this time last year to stage 3 - after what we thought was a dislocated collar bone, actually turned out to be the return of the melanoma and we are now at Stage 4 which is incurable.

He has a tumour in his clavicle bone and several spot points the other side and around his neck, there are also some findings of something going on with his liver.  Mark has a full body PET scan first thing on Wednesday morning where they will look at his organs, I already know part of another scan has showed up spots on his lungs - we found this out yesterday.

Luckily for Mark he is BRAF+ which means he has a mutant gene that only 5% of patients have which means he can have a form of chemotherapy by tablet - this has an 80% success rate and starts to work within a week, shrinking down the cells and moving around the blood stream blocking.  We know that with each individual this will work for only a limited time - could be 6 months, could be over a year - but there are other drugs he can take.  He will also be having radio therapy on the pinpointed areas.  If he had not had this gene the outlook was quite dismal.

There has been a lot to take in and life is like being on an emotional roller coaster, my emotions vary from being upset, angry, frustrated, helpless and most of all scared, but I am being very strong in front of Mark and the girls to get them through this horrible illness.

So this is why I haven't been around or visiting any of your lovely blogs - time and tiredness do not allow right now, I am hoping to be able to get into my crafty haven when he is back home from hospital to be able to relax and take my mind off things - work is being a distraction at the moment.

I want to thank those of you who have already sent best wishes and support - this means so much and helps us through as it is one day at a time.

I will of course keep you updated - people can react to you in very different ways, please don't be a stranger.
